jar fishing

For many it is an opportunity to improvise fishing when you do not have a rod at hand or simply want to vary your style to make more interesting catches using your jar or can. Making a fishing jar is easy, and we only need a few elements:

  • Jar or can with a wide mouth where your fist fits
  • Wood the length of the jar opening.
  • easy felling
  • Screws
  • nylon thread
  • Paint
  • Fish hook

Preparing our fishing jar can take little time since you have all your elements:

  1. We take the measure of our wood and seek to fix it along the entire length of the mouth of the can, this by using the drill that allows us to fix it and make it safe.
  2. Once the wood is fixed, we proceed to make a hole on one side in the middle of the jar.
  3. Through the hole we have made, we pass the end of the nylon and make a strong knot to the fixed piece of wood.
  4. Once this is fixed, we proceed to wind the spool of thread on the outside of the can.
  5. A few centimeters before reaching the end we place a buoy that allows us to control the depth of our hook.
  6. At the other end of the nylon we proceed to fix our hook with the type of knot that we always use.

To give the can greater security and not cut ourselves, we can give a few touches of good glue around it and to the area where the wood is fixed on the sides of the can. There are fishermen who use a spoon as a type of lure to facilitate the fishing of some species.

Bait to use for jar fishing

With the simplicity of the technique we can also use a simple method of baiting, boilies or fishing dough can be an excellent option to use, especially if we are going for carp. Another alternative may be corn, which is easy to get and carry.

How to use the fishing jar

Once we have our jar prepared and the bait, it will be necessary make our best cast and proceed as we would with our rod. We will have to pick up the thread slowly, seeking to help ourselves with the wood inside the jar for fastening.

As we can see, it is a very simple technique but one that offers a different perspective to traditional fishing and that can serve us very well to catch different species if we make our casts in a suitable area and with a good presence of fish.
