Who gets the fishing license for free in Madrid?

If you belong to one of these groups, your fishing license (or card) in Madrid is free (fee 0 €):

Seniors over 65: exempt from payment and receive a perpetual license (no renewal required).
Seniors over 60 with public pension (retirees and pensioners): exempt from payment.
Recognized disability ≥33%: exempt from payment.

At any Citizen Service Office in the Community (there are dozens throughout the region: El Escorial, Alcalá, Tres Cantos, Guadarrama, Pozuelo…) or at the headquarters at c/ Alcalá 16, Madrid (with prior appointment). They will provide the provisional license immediately and send the definitive one to your home by mail.

How to Renew the Fishing License in Madrid

Renewing is the same process as obtaining a new one, and it can also be done online or in person. Three key points to know:

Same steps: log in, confirm your details, pay the fee, and obtain the new one. The provisional license is issued immediately.
If it expired a long time ago: it counts as a new license (no worries, the process is identical).
If you are exempt (65+, retiree, disability): you do not need to renew anything — you do not pay a fee and, if you are 65+, your license is perpetual.

Lost your fishing card? Request a duplicate

If you lost your license or it was damaged, you do not need to obtain a new one: request a duplicate for 5 € at the same headquarters, with your details. You can also check, download, or print your license from your area on the official portal.

Fishing outside Madrid: the interregional license

Your Madrid license is only valid in Madrid. If you want to fish in other communities as well, since 2026 there is the interregional license: a single river license valid in 10 communities for 25 €/year.
