Fishing Free Zones in Extremadura

Estremadura, true to his passion for fishing, establishes within its regulation the reserve areas for fishing practice, but also, aware of the limitations that this can generate for some athletes.

It has annual free fishing zones, where, although the regulations of practices and use of equipment are maintained, they also allow the practice only by using the respective fishing license.

What is a fishing free zone

Are considered fishing-free zones those specific sections in which you only need to have a river fishing license granted by the corresponding body to issue it for that sector or community. Although it is not necessary to pay another type of permit, it will be necessary to follow the regulations already established in the law, in relation to the type of fishing, schedules, techniques and other related.

What are the fishing-free zones in Extremadura

In all the Autonomous Community of Extremadura are determined annually some stretches and sectors for the free practice of fishing, let us point out some of those approved for this 2021 and that are stipulated in the respective prohibition order.

Orellana swamp.

It is located in the Municipality of Bajadoz and is one of the most visited, due to its abundant fishing and excellent sectors for relaxed and enjoyable sports practice. Of considerable extensions, its waters are supplied thanks to the Guadiana river.

At the level of fishing-free sections we find the following:

  • Shore that includes the Molino de San Andrés (southern limit) to the Camino de Pela a Puebla (northern limit).

Do not forget that the species available for fishing in this swamp/reservoir are: black bass, carp (both royal and common), barbel, pike, tench and percasol.

Alcantara swamp.

Located in the Municipality of Cáceres, this is another emblematic area, whose waters are fed by the Tagus and Alagón rivers and which also offer their sporting visitors abundant and lively fishing.  

The free section of this swamp comprises:

  • The banks that are between the Arroyo Arenero as its northern limit to approximately 1 km downstream from the Club Náutico Tajomar, which would comprise the southern limit of the free section.

The species available for fishing in this rich area include: black bass, barbel, bogue, pike, percasol, carp and pike perch.

Torrejón-Tajo Reservoir

Another idyllic sector for sport fishing located in Cáceres. The influx of visitors is constant and it is practically a magnet for fishermen from all over Spain since the activity is always productive and very enjoyable.

The section with the possibility of free fishing for this swamp includes:

The shore of the Albalat Bridge as the eastern limit to the Fishermen's Refuge for the western limit.

In this swamp/reservoir the possible fishing species are: crucian carp, sirulo, barbel, black bass, carp and pike perch.

Alange Swamp

Located in Bajadoz, this is a large reservoir very close to the city of Mérida. One thing that could be said about this sector is that although there are many fishing areas, its fish are sometimes picky eaters.

The fishing-free zone for this reservoir includes: the banks of the Cortijo de la Cumbre public road from its southern limit to its northern limit.

The species found in these waters are: carp, crucian carp, barbel, black bass and pike.
