What is the ban?

Let us consider this as the period in which a temporary restriction of fishing/hunting of some species is made. The reason for this is to allow reproduction cycles to occur and thus endure and maintain their subsistence.

The closed periods vary according to the area and season, as well as the species to be protected, and in relation to this, the duration of the prohibition will also vary.

General aspects of the 2023 fishing ban order

Despite the pandemic and quarantine situation caused by Covid-19, it involved the paralysis of many activities, individual practice itself was not so affected, precisely because it is a sport that can very well be done alone or with a prudential distance. . Of course, in relation to collective activities such as contests and others, they were stopped at the time, resuming little by little for this 2021.

Given this situation of a return to a "New normal" own Ministry of Sustainable Development of Castilla-La Mancha published this 2021 the respective Closed Orders for the current year. This taking provisions especially for activities to be developed collectively.

In relation to this, the first thing that is intended is to always maintain security protocols and provide maximum protection to those attending group activities. For this reason, the corresponding biosecurity measures must also be maintained for the practice of our fish sport.

As always and now entering into specific matter, the order includes the fundamental and basic aspects of regulations regarding fishing, this specifically in the Community of Castile-La Mancha:

  • Suitable fishing seasons according to species.
  • Limit sizes.
  • Maximum number of captures, that is, the daily quota.
  • Baits authorized for each species and in each community.
  • What are the marketable species.
  • The limitations and prohibitions of others of indigenous origin.
  • The respective delimitations and regulations for the waters that are considered special, refuges and others.
  • The protection of those continental species.
  • Control of exotic invasive species.

The closed season for trout waters

At the level of the waters declared properly trout, the ban for Castilla-La Mancha determine two things:

  • Low mountain waters: fishing permit from April 1st to September 30th.
  • high mountain waters: the business period corresponds to the 1st of May until the middle of October.

In summary, outside these dates the possibility of fishing is prohibited. Of course, this is only in the free zones, and in the preserves their specific regime should be consulted.

Final considerations regarding the closures

Remember that lhe ban takes special care in maintaining the means of fishing itself. This is motivated to seek to prevent the erroneous or involuntary introduction of non-native aquatic species, such as Asian clams, rock mussel or even the zebra mussel.

Finally something to note closure orders is that they also seek to go beyond fish species, conserving the spaces and times of nesting of the waterfowl themselves. This, for example, in these areas where the red crab also lives, whose closed period really corresponds to February 1st to May 31st.
