What is the interautonomous fishing license?

It is a continental fishing (river) license that, thanks to a agreement between regions in effect since 2026, allows you to fish in 10 autonomous regions with a single document, instead of obtaining a different license in each one.

Previously, if you fished in Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha, you needed both licenses. Now, with the interautonomous license (25 €/year), it covers all 10 regions in the agreement. The agreement is signed for the period 2026-2029.

Note: the interautonomous license is only for river fishing (continental waters). It does not cover marine fishing (sea), which is a separate process. River and sea licenses are always separate.

Price of the interautonomous license 2026

The interautonomous license costs 25 € per year. It’s interesting to compare it with obtaining several individual regional licenses:

If you plan to fish in several of the 10 regions, a single interautonomous license is more cost-effective (and convenient) than paying for a license in each one.

Which regions are included in the interautonomous license?

The agreement includes 10 regions. The remaining territories are excluded: some because they have their own river license, and others because their fishing is marine. Here are the 19:

Here, recreational fishing is marine, so the interautonomous license (which is for river fishing) does not apply.

How to obtain the interautonomous license online

It is processed online from the electronic headquarters of any of the regions in the agreement (no special website needed): you select the interautonomous option, enter your details, and pay the 25 €.

  1. Have your ID, NIE, or valid passport ready.
  2. Go to the headquarters of one of the regions in the agreement (for example, your own region) and select the interautonomous option.
  3. Pay the fee of 25 € with a card or bank charge.
  4. Download your license immediately. You can now fish in the 10 regions.

How to renew the interautonomous license

The interautonomous license is annual: it is renewed each year by paying the 25 € again, using the same online process. If it has expired, you simply reapply for it. It does not renew automatically, so keep track of the date if you fish regularly.

Retirees and exemptions: Is the interautonomous license free?

Exemptions (over 65, retirees/pensioners with public pensions, disability ≥33%) make your regional license free in your region. This exemption is specific to each region.

If you only fish in your region and are exempt, you already have free fishing: you do not need the interautonomous license. The interautonomous license (25 €) makes sense when you want to fish in multiple of the 10.

Minors

Minors can also obtain a fishing license: it is processed with their identity document and the signature of their parent or legal guardian. Check with your region for conditions and discounts for minors, which may vary.

No. The interautonomous license is only for continental fishing (river). Marine fishing is a separate process.
Is it valid in Catalonia, Basque Country, or the islands?
No. Catalonia, Navarre, La Rioja, Cantabria, and Basque Country are not included in the agreement; you need their regional license there. In the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Ceuta, and Melilla, fishing is marine, so the interautonomous license (for river fishing) does not apply.
