Types of Recreational Maritime License
Individual (the most common): for you, fishing from the shore, rocks, beach, or a boat. 3 years.

Underwater Fishing License in Mallorca
Underwater fishing (free diving, with a spear) is very popular in the Balearic Islands and requires a separate license, valid for 1 year. To obtain it, you need one of the following:
Federation License for underwater fishing in force (from the federation, which already includes insurance), or
Medical Certificate of fitness for underwater fishing + specific civil liability insurance.
It is free diving (apnea): scuba tanks are not allowed. Respect distances from bathers and marked beaches.
Who Gets the Free Fishing License in the Balearic Islands?
Retirees and seniors over 65: the license (individual and underwater) is free. You just need to apply by proving your age or pension.
Minimum Age: you can obtain it from 14 years.
How to Obtain the Fishing License in Mallorca
It is issued by the Govern de les Illes Balears (General Directorate of Fishing). The fastest and cheapest way is online; in person, you can do it in Palma or, on each island, through the Consell Insular (Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera).

Renewing is the same procedure online and, if you were already registered, you do not need to resubmit your ID. The individual license lasts 3 years and the underwater license 1 year.
